Ss. Mildred Busch and Joyce Feterl are welcomed to Tanzania by

  the Benedictine Sisters of Our Lady Help of Christians community.

  In late March Ss. Mildred Busch and Joyce Feterl traveled to Tanzania to visit S. Auxilia Hokororo, a 2008 graduate of Mount Marty College, and her community. The Yankton Benedictines assisted S. Auxilia with her education costs and she lived at Sacred Heart Monastery while studying at Mount Marty.  Since returning to Tanzania, S. Auxilia is now the principal and a teacher at a high school in the village of Mtwara.

   Because the Yankton Benedictines no longer have the personnel to serve directly in foreign countries, they have committed resources to help sisters from other countries come to Mount Marty and earn their degrees so that they can return to help their communities and countries. Sisters from South Korea and several African countries have been part of this monastery outreach.

  The needs of the Tanzanian community include computers, fax machines,and video cameras to assist in their ministries and community life as well as larger needs like a water tower and basic agricultural equipment and supplies.

  Sacred Heart Monastery and Mount Marty College have benefited from the rich cultures, customs and experiences shared by the international student sisters.
