SOS Service Trip Sponsored by Benedictine Sisters of Sacred Heart Monastery Yankton, South Dakota
Service Project
The purpose of this project is to reach out to others through Gospel values and to embody the teachings of St. Benedict when he says, "Relieve the lot of the poor" (RB 4:14). Participants will assist with various projects driven by the needs of the poor in Omaha.
In search of building the church and the kingdom of God, Benedictine Sisters will serve directly with laywomen. This project will offer the participants the opportunity to grow in faith and will allow time for personal reflection.
Participants will form community through ministry, prayer, shared meals, and leisure; elements that are central to the Benedictine way of life.
The Gospel of Matthew states, "The gift you have received, give as gift." Through the gift of service, participants will touch the core of their spirituality. As they minister to the poor, they will find that the poor will touch their hearts and minister to them in a special way. It is through their mutual sharing that the participants will examine their own spirituality.
