The Benedictine Sisters of Yankton, SD

The Mount Marty chapter has twenty five members enrolled at college. Meetings are held on the third Monday of the month in the Peace Chapel during the school year . The format of the meetings involves study of an aspect of the Rule of Benedict : Wisdom Distilled from the Daily by Joan Chittester, O.S.B and RB l980 commentaries. The meetings take place at 9:00 PM to accommodate work and study schedules. The meetings are one hour, closing with Evening Prayer and time for private prayer in the chapel if desired. There is time for a lesson by the director and faith sharing or silence is encouraged.

Daily mass is encouraged, but not required. Reflection on the daily readings of Scripture is part of the program. The main thrust of the program is prayer and willing service. The Oblates have been involved in service at the monastery and the local area when needed .

The ceremonies of enrollment take place in March at the monastery or at a later convenient date for those who cannot make the original ceremony time.. The expectations of the oblates include the daily Liturgy of the Hours (Morning and Evening Praise) and reading and reflecting on Scripture with a commentary on the Rule of Benedict.

Another feature of the oblates is to be alert to the Benedictine values found in works of literature and films of spiritual value. Oblates strive to seek God and keep an awareness of Him so that in all things God may be glorified.
