What happens when I enter?

A woman comes to live at the monastery as a Postulant for six months to a year. She shares the life of prayer and work while learning more about Benedictine spirituality. She then enters the Novitiate for one year. This is a year of intense prayer and reflection on monastic life in preparation for monastic profession. All during this time, the woman, with a director, discerns her desire and fit for life in this Benedictine community.

At the end of the Novitiate, the novice declares her commitment to live the monastic life for a specific period of time, usually three years. The making of perpetual monastic profession after this time marks a lifelong commitment to this particular monastic community and to seeking God according to the Gospel and Rule of Benedict.
